Creek Wood captures 11AA crown for second straight year

CHARLOTTE, TN – Throughout the 2019 season, the Creek Wood Red Hawks have displayed a laser-sharp focus, which was in full effect on Wednesday as Creek Wood (24-6, 13-0) defeated Lewis County (12-14-1, 10-3) 3-0 to repeat as District 11AA Champions.

“Their defense was incredible and they played lights out” said head coach Chris Clapper.

The Red Hawks would not get on the board until the bottom of the first inning off a Chase Klotz single that drove home Will Secker. Neither team would score for three innings, and in the bottom of the fourth with 2 outs, Creek Wood drove in two runs as Peyton Allen singled a hard ground ball to second base. That made the score 3-0, which was all the Red Hawks needed.

11AA Pitcher of the Year Will Secker went the distance for Creek Wood, allowing just one hit and striking out seven Lewis County batters.

“They didn’t bunt as much” said Secker, “and I made them hit the ball a bit more.”

This year marks the first time in program history that Creek Wood has won the regular season title and district title in the same season. As a team, the Red Hawks had four hits on 21 plate appearances, Peyton Allen went 2-2 with two RBI’s and Chase Klotz went 2-3 with one RBI. Junior Mitch Duke was named the 11AA Tournament MVP.

Creek Wood will host Forrest on Monday, May 13 at 7pm in the Region 6AA tournament.
