CHARLOTTE, TN- The Creek Wood Lady Red Hawks (21-5, 14-1) dominated on the opening night of district tournament play defeating Waverly Central (3-20, 0-15) 66-24.
The scoring started early as Emily Michael started off hot, scoring nine points in the opening quarter. In the second quarter, the Lady Red Hawks went cold briefly, but still lead at halftime 38-20.
“I thought we had a letdown in the second quarter” said Creek Wood coach Russell Wilson, “we must do a better job communicating when we sub, but overall I was pleased.”
In the second half, Creek Wood exploded, scoring 28 points in the second half and not allowing Waverly Central to score a basket in the fourth quarter.
10 different Lady Red Hawks scored in the win. Sophomore Allie Burgess led with 16 points, followed by Raegan Hohl with 15, Emily Michael and Bryanna Moore added nine apiece.
The Lady Red Hawks will play Lewis County on Friday, at 4pm for the 11AA tournament semifinal. The rest of the district tournament games will be held at Stewart County High School.
