Creek Wood gets first win of the season, beats Cheatham County 26-7

A strong running game and a solid defensive effort propelled the Creek Wood Red Hawks to a 26-7 win over the Cheatham County Central Cubs on Friday night in Charlotte.

Creek Wood got on the board first with a 40-yard touchdown run from Sam Askins in the first quarter but the Cubs were able to tie the game in the second when Xavier Smith plucked the ball out of a air on a mishandled pitch and scampered four yards into the end zone.

Cheatham County had a chance to take the lead going into halftime moving the ball to the Creek Wood 21-yard line after two long pass plays. However, a series of penalties and stalled running plays backed them up. An interception by Garrett Stansberry ended the drive.

The Redhawks would take the lead for good in the third quarter, scoring from one yard out on a touchdown by Danny Stansberry. They would pull away in the fourth quarter when Garrett Stansberry scored on an electrifying run of 45 yards to make the score 20-7. Will Secker would add another touchdown run to seal the victory.

Creek Wood picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-1 and will travel to Greenbrier on Friday night, which can be heard on 1260 AM and the WDKN app.
