CHAPEL HILL, TN – The Creek Wood Lady Red Hawks (33-5-1) collected only three hits as a team during the 6-0 loss to the Forrest Lady Rockets (32-5) on Wednesday evening in the R6AA Championship game.

Along with the lackluster offensive performance, there were three errors on defense for the Lady Red Hawks, which is unusual for the ordinarily sure-handed group.

The offense did lag behind due to the Forrest pitcher, Lauren Gillespie, who kept the Lady Red Hawks off balance all night long en route to her three-hit shutout over Creek Wood, including eight strikeouts.

Madison Woodard collected the first hit for Creek Wood in the third inning, as Madeline Kilpatrick and Jase Jackson registered hits later in the contest. Pitcher Lennon Spicer allowed only three earned runs to the stout Forrest offense, but the errors on defense led to three more runs.

Sometimes, you just have to tip your cap because your opponent has a better day and that’s the case here, but Creek Wood had played Forrest twice this season before this game and won one, so they know they can beat this team.

With the sheer amount of talent on both teams, a rematch later in the postseason with a bigger trophy at stake is certainly not out of the question.

Despite the loss, the Lady Red Hawks will advance to the AA Sectional. Creek Wood will travel to Greenbrier on Friday, with a 6pm first pitch. A win would put Creek Wood in the state tournament for the third consecutive season, while a loss would end the 2019 season.
