After beating rival Dickson County by 27 points in Week 1, the Creek Wood football team started out with a thud against Cheatham County on Friday night. The Red Hawks gave up a score on the opening drive, fumbled on their first offensive play, and thus allowed another scoring drive. In short, Creek Wood was down 12-0 before running its second offensive play.
Luckily for the Red Hawks, games are a lot longer than a couple of series. On a perfect night for football, the visitors pitched a shutout for the rest of the first half as both sides traded turnovers and field position. In the second half, Creek Wood cut the lead to 12-7 with a rushing touchdown, but the homestanding Cubs answered back to make it 20-7. The visitors from Charlotte used just enough of an air show to hold off Cheatham County Central–including a “go-up-and-get-it” tactic where Timmy Randolph would high-point the ball to tight end/defensive end/wide receiver/basketball power forward Garrett Dolinich–and got 2 more scores on the ground to turn away the Cubs 27-20 and keep head coach Houston Thiel undefeated.
Randolph was 6-for-10 for 106 yards, but 2 interceptions; Dolinich finished with 3 catches for 80 yards to lead the receiving corps. Sam Askins led the way on the ground with 16 carries for 87 yards and 3 scores, while Randolph took it himself 8 times for 34 yards and a score.
Creek Wood prepares for its first Region game this Friday night, hosting Greenbrier on WDKN 1260 AM. The Bobcats beat Kenwood 32-6 in Week One, then outlasted West Creek 29-16 in Week 2.
