CW Softball Storms Back to State

The Creek Wood Lady Red Hawks flipped the outcome from worst to first on Friday night, walking off with a Sectional Round win over White House Heritage in dramatic fashion 1-0. Bailey Griffith had scattered 5 hits in a shutout bid, and with one out in the bottom of the seventh she broke up a perfect game with a single. The next batter, Jase Jackson broke the shutout by banging an extra base hit off the wall, driving in Griffith to end the game 1-0.

The win sends the Lady Red Hawks back to the TSSAA Spring Fling in Murfreesboro, where they will face Chattanooga Central in the first round Tuesday afternoon at 4pm. The Purple Pounders have not allowed a run in Regional/Sectional play, topping McMinn Central 2-0, Sweetwater 3-0, and Macon County 1-0; Creek Wood has matched this performance in a different order, as both teams have thrown 3 straight shutouts and are averaging 2 runs per game in that stretch.

A win would put the Lady Red Hawks into a 5:30pm showdown Wednesday with the winner of CAK and Dyersburg; the losers of CW/CC and CAK/Dyersburg play in an elimination game Wednesday morning at 11:30am. All Creek Wood State Tournament games will be heard live on WDKN 1260 AM, 101.5 The One FM, and the RFC Sports Network.

Waverly and Greenbrier were set to play Saturday for a spot in State as well, but got rained out until Monday at noon; the winner of that game will face Elizabethton Tuesday at 5:30pm.
