Emily Beard exploded offensively for the Lady Cougars to lead them to a 62-50 win over Summit on Tuesday night.
After see sawing back and forth through the first half, Lady Cougars grabbed the lead against Summit on a three-pointer from Ryann Roberts in the second quarter and never looked back.
Beard led the charge for Lady Cougars’ offense, scoring 32 points, with 13 points during the third quarter alone.
Kailey Rosenbaum also made it into double digits, scoring 11 points for Dickson County. Rosenbaum was a big defensive contributor as well, racking up eight rebounds and two steals.
The Cougars scrapped and clawed with Summit but could never distance themselves from the Spartans and feel 75-59.
Summit returned the core of their team win John and Tai Carter as well as Jaden Lewis at the guard spots. They added 6’9″ junior transfer Demontae Dixon in the post to round out the 2016 lineup.
Dizon posed problem for the Cougars all night long and posted 23 points and 18 rebounds for Summit.
Despite the huge night by Dixon, the Cougars rallied repeatedly to tie the game and even took an early third quarter lead. But a three point shooting lull in the third quarter doomed Dickson. Tez Coleman tied he game at 43 before the Spartans responded with a 11-0 run to provide a cushion heading into the final quarter.
DJ Stacey, one of the “Baby Cougars,” nailed a three pointer to draw the Cougars within five, 64-59, midway through the fourth quarter. John Carter answered with a three of his own and a Dickson miss allowed the Spartans to pull away for good.
Stacey led four Cougars in double figures with 16, Coleman had 12 and Jacob Murphree and Darian Burns each had 11 points.
Dickson gets set for Beech next on Friday night. That game can be heard on all channels of the RFC Sports Network at 6pm from Dickson County High School.
