Erin Webb has been hired as head coach of the Dickson County Lady Cougars, replacing the outgoing Catie Embrey.
Webb was a Lady Cougar herself, playing softball and volleyball as well as basketball. She graduated from Dickson County in 2003. After playing collegiate softball at Lipscomb, she got her coaching career started at Hickman County Middle School in 2005 before landing her first head coaching gig at East Hickman Middle School in 2009. After two seasons at East Hickman, Webb returned to Hickman County to coach softball, then was hired as head coach of girl’s basketball at Witthorne Middle School in February of 2017.
“After speaking with a committee of girls from the basketball team, we compiled a list of ten characteristics that the girls hoped their new coach would possess,” said DCHS principal Joey Holley. “Coach Webb was the candidate who most embodied these characteristics. We are super excited that a former Cougar basketball player is coming back to the Hill to serve as the head coach of our girls’ basketball team”.
Webb will be the Lady Cougars’ fourth head coach in five years, but inherits a team that went 27-5 last season, and returns all but one starter from the 2017-2018 roster.
“Her energy, her enthusiasm for our program and our school is amazing” said DCHS athletic director Jay Powlas,”We hired a coach, but we also got a really good teacher and a better person”.
“When I got the call, I was overjoyed. I was so humbled” said Webb. “I still bleed blue and orange, and I am just so excited to get in there and work with the girls”.
“It has been a whirlwind, but it has been a dream come true to get to come home”.
There will be a meet and greet for Coach Webb and the Lady Cougars held at Dickson County High School on Wednesday, July 18th, at 4 p.m.
