Former Creek Wood High School guard Brandon Williams is back in Dickson County, and ready to share his overseas experience with young people who want to learn the game of basketball.
“After I played my ball in college, I knew I wanted to play after college so I’ve been working towards that” said Williams. “Now I have a chance to build my own program and its something I’ve always wanted to do”.
WaveEffect is a K – 8th grade one-day summer basketball camp that will be focused on not only the fundamentals of basketball, but on the tactical side of things as well. Rather than just teaching young players how to dribble a ball, Williams wants to teach them why. “We have a purpose in everything we do. Just learning more about the game, being able to watch film and break down film about yourself”.
After graduating from Creek Wood in 2008, Williams moved to Indiana to continue his career at the University of Evansville. Upon getting his degree, he returned to Dickson for a few years before moving overseas to the Caribbean island of Antigua, to continue his career playing for Ottos Full Throttle. While he spent less than a year on the island, Williams certainly gained a lot from the experience, and his goal is to bring that knowledge to the young athletes of Dickson County. “I’ve been learning more about basketball and seeing different styles of play other countries have and bringing that back here to be able to teach the kids”.
Although he is back home, Williams is not giving up on pursuing his goal of playing professional basketball, and plans on using that as a lesson in his camp as well. “Also letting the kids see me work hard and still going for my dreams” said Williams,”I’m doing it for myself, but its more for them to see and learn as well”.
WaveEffect will take place on Friday, July 20th at Creek Wood High School with the schedule going as follows.
K-4th grade: 8-10AM
5th-6th grade: 11AM – 1PM
7th – 8th grade: 2 – 4PM
Anyone wanting to sign up for WaveEffect can do so on their Facebook page starting on Wednesday, June 13th, or just show up to Creek Wood High School on July 20th at 8AM.
