Lady Red Hawks grounded by late run

Leading with under 4 four minutes to play, under 2 minutes to play, and under a minute and a half to play, Creek Wood watched it slip away as Northview Academy went on a 13-0 run to end the AA State Quarterfinal.

A 43-35 loss the Lady Red Hawks had seemingly locked down, they just could’nt hold on with costly turnovers down the strech.

Much like their male counterparts, however, their is still so much to be proud of this year and so much to look foward too.

This season in the midst of navigating a pandemic and an ever changing schedule, plus having no offseason of any kind and adjusting practice habits, the Lady Red Hawks manage to win 29 out of 35 games. They won the distirct tournament, Region Tournament, and found themselves in Murfreesboro for the first time since the ’13-’14 season when Rachel Bell led them to a final four.

There is plenty to look forward too as well.

Next season it will most certainly be diffcult to replace Autumn Burgess, Allie Burgess, and Reagan Taylor. However, Creek Wood returns their leading scorer Brianna Burgess and another very talented starter in Laura Nichols. They, barring anything crazy like last offseason, will have an entire year to develop raw talents liek Bryanna Moore, Brooke Burgess, Savannah Baker, and Abby Owen.

If someone was asking me right now what would you expect from this team going forward, I would go out on a limb and say next year will be good, but a bit of a developmental year. The season after, Brianna and Laura’s senior season, this team has the potential to get right back where they were this year; Murfreesboro and the state tournament.
