Creek Wood and Fairview postponed their Monday-Tuesday series to a Wednesday doubleheader at Fairview due to the heavy rains that soaked the midstate over the weekend. By Tuesday, the field at Creek Wood had drained, and the Red Hawks were able to play as planned; the home side took care of business with a 5-2 win.
When Wednesday rolled around, the Yellow Jackets opted to play at the early start time anyway. Creek Wood started off early as well, leading 3-1 at the end of the first inning. Riding a strong performance from Zeke Lecomte, the Red Hawks built an 8-1 lead and salted it away for an 8-2 win and a series sweep.
Creek Wood struck for 3 in the first and 3 more in the third, before adding 2 more insurance runs in the top of the fifth. The Jackets threatened several times and loaded the bases more than once, but Lecomte held Fairview off after allowing a run in the first. He was lifted with one out in the fifth when the bases were loaded again, but Chase Haley came on in relief and retired the side. Lecomte struck out 7, while Haley came out of center field throwing heat, fanning 5 in 2 and 2/3 innings of relief. CWHS traded a run for an out in the bottom of the seventh, and held on for the 8-2 victory. Peyton Allen delivered offensively for the Red Hawks with 2 hits, tying the game-high; he also had a team-best 2 RBI.
In other Wednesday night action, Brentwood topped Dickson County 5-3 to sweep the baseball Cougars. The next broadcast on the RFC Sports Network is set to be DCHS softball at Henry County on Friday night.
