The opening game of the season for Creek Wood baseball was a 4-0 loss in the cold and the wet at Clarksville Northeast. After a tough tournament road trip to cap off the first week, the Red Hawks went right into district play. Of course, a perfect spring day was knocked off the rails by a popup storm front on the first day of spring, but Creek Wood took a 5-3 decision on the road at the Hickman County Bulldogs to open the season 1-0 in district play.
Connor Pate threw a couple of scoreless innings for the Red Hawks, while Zeke Lecomte drove in the first run of the game in the first to make it 1-0 Creek Wood. The visitors added an insurance run to make it 2-0 after 2 complete innings, but a storm blew in from the north to suspend play due to the threat of lightning. The delay wasn’t especially long, however, and Creek Wood was able to salt away the 5-3 win on the road. The Red Hawks will host the Bulldogs on Tuesday night, weather permitting.
In the only other county action on Monday night, the bats woke up for the Cougars, but 6 runs were not enough to give Dickson County its first win of the season. Montgomery Central took the win at home 8-6 over the Cougars.
If weather allows, the Dickson County softball game of the week will be the Lady Cougars at Waverly Tuesday night at 5pm. At the same time, the Creek Wood Lady Red Hawks will be playing at East Hickman, and the Red Hawk baseball side hosts Hickman County Tuesday night at 7pm.
